Construction has finally begun on Baltimore Station, a new mixed-use development headed to the Milwaukee Junction neighborhood near New Center. Clawson’s Woodpile BBQ Shack has already leased space for a second location at the site, that includes the renovation of two buildings at the corner of Woodward Avenue and East Baltimore Avenue.

Peter Cummings’ The Platform under contract on Piquette Ave. building

Correction appended Detroit developer Peter Cummings’ The Platform LLC real estate company has another greater downtown building under contract for purchase. The building, located at 411 Piquette Ave. at Brush Street, is about 110,000 square feet, according to the current owner, Hannah Wickins, who said she bought it in 1989.

The low profile son-in-law of the late philanthropist Max Fisher, has renewed his commitment to Detroit.  The opening of the city’s first Whole Foods store on Woodward Avenue in 2013 set off a spark in Cummings.
