How a Detroit Landmark Built a Space for Creative, Minority-Owned Businesses

The Fisher Building is known as “Detroit’s largest art object.” The office skyscraper, which opened in 1928, boasts a grand lobby decked out with marble, mosaics, painted ceilings and ornate detailing in brass and bronze. Real estate developer The Platform purchased the landmark in 2015, spending over $10 million in rehabilitation and renovation. But the company was stuck on what to do with the fourth floor, broken into small offices by design for doctors and dentists.

Next phase of Fisher Building preservation effort to begin soon

The next phase of preservation and restoration at the iconic Fisher Building is now underway. This week, work will begin to help a team survey the façade of the building. During a four-month period, workers will comb over the 325,000-square-feet of exterior marble so they can survey the building and collect data. That will help establish a plan to make necessary repairs. Over the next four weeks, crews will install scaffolding around the exterior.

The next phase of restoration efforts will get underway this week at Detroit’s historic Fisher Building. Over the next four weeks, scaffolding will be installed around the iconic building’s exterior to allow a team to survey the Fisher’s façade. Over a four-month period, workers will examine the Fisher’s 325,000 square feet of exterior marble in order to survey the building and collect data to establish a plan to make necessary repairs, according to a release.

Strategic Staffing Solutions moves offices from Penobscot to Fisher Building

October 17th, 2019

The Fisher Building has a new largest tenant. Strategic Staffing Solutions (S3), an IT and business services company based in Detroit, will move its headquarters into three floors occupying 57,400 square feet at the iconic New Center building. The move is expected to be finished by the end of 2019. After renovations are complete, corporate and branch offices will move into two additional floors by mid-summer 2020. The company employs as many as 1,400 people, according to Crain’s Detroit Business.

Strategic Staffing Solutions moving to Fisher Building

October 17th, 2019

Strategic Staffing Solutions is moving its corporate headquarters to the Fisher Building, making it the landmark skyscraper’s largest tenant, company officials announced Thursday. The company’s move from the Penobscot Building in downtown Detroit will begin with relocating its development center operations by the end of the year. The corporate and branch offices will begin the move in early 2020. The development center and call center operations will be on the sixth floor and the corporate offices and branch offices will move to the building’s 20th and 21st floors following renovations.

Hair. Is The Newest Salon in New Center

The Fisher building is home to a bunch of fashion-related retail spots, including The Peacock Room, Vera Jane, Yama, tailor William and Bonnie and on the more casual side, Pure Detroit. That’s kind of true to its roots, as back in the day, the three story lobby of the Fisher was kind of the Somerset Mall of its day, full of shops.

Fisher Building owners refinance loan for $36M to continue preservation efforts

The owners of the Fisher Building have closed on a major loan refinancing to continue much-needed maintenance and preservation efforts on the historic Art Deco building in New Center. Planned work includes restoring the brass entrance doors, modernizing three elevators, renovating public bathrooms, and constructing a new conference center. The owners say the loan will also allow them to pay off all prior debt.
